I am so SO excited by my latest find! One of my biggest loves (at the moment) is the fashion of ‘La Belle Epoque’ – that golden age at the end of the 19th century and before World War I, when women still wore the lavish tightly corseted bodices and long skirts of the Edwardian era.
I just love the feminine shapes created by the clothes of the period and the luxurious fabrics, a decadence never really recaptured after the war, and my love of the fashion has only been intensified by exquisite English period drama Downton Abbey – here’s just a little reminder of why …..

Just imagine my jubilation when, whilst researching Edwardian fashion and dresses, I came across these devestatingly gorgeous bridal gowns……
What a wet & windy weekend….. but how well I spent it! I got to watch my latest vintage love, Downton Abbey, for the fourth time! Having already watched it twice in the UK, I couldn’t resist watching again when it was shown on Prime in New Zealand recently and when I spotted the DVD boxset for sale…. well I just simply had to buy it.
For anyone who hasn’t seen it (you MUST watch it!) Downton Abbey is a British Edwardian period drama, set in the fictional stately home of the title, it follows the lives of its aristocratic occupants and their servants. Created by Oscar winning writer Julian Fellows (of art deco feast Gosford Park fame) the acting is amazing, script perfection and storyline tantalizing! The attention to detail is truly painstaking, but of course, what all followers of everything vintage will really love are the exquisite costumes……
